SU Pro on Mac Desktop Crashing when Using Section views

SketchUp is crashing very shortly after I add a section view to a file. It is rock solid and stable until I add a section for model building or better viewing. It occurs shortly after I create the section and adjust it. The triggering event does not seem to be consistent. The file/program just becomes unstable. It does not hang and hold but crashes. This problem is consistent across many files. I am pretty clean with grouping. If I don’t use sections, there is no instability. I don’t know if this a file structure, workflow or hardware problem but for now sections are unusable. Can you suggest solutions?

What OS version are you using?
Are you still using SKP 22?

Great to hear from you Mike. Thanks! I am pretty current. Mac OS 13.7.3, SU 24.0.544. Computer iMac18,2 with Quad-Core Intel Core i5

Are you using the new graphics engine or old?

I would switch to the old and see if things improve.

See Dans post below for latest release.

Please update your forum profile when you get a chance. It is showing old information.

Actually, the latest MacOS build is 24.0.598, which is release 2024.0.2.

Ah yes, you are right. Not sure why the other page came up when I was searching… thanks @DanRathbun

Thanks very much. Switched back to OLD graphics engine, and updated SU. Tried section on a number of models and seems to have addressed problem (for now anyways)

I was also experiencing crashes with section enabled this morning on Mac desktop, SU 2024. Mine were very consistent crashes though: I would enable section view to see under the roof of a second floor, turned on my imported CAD linework, and select a wall to move into the building, and I’d get a bug splat every time I’d select that wall. Deleting the wall (just a rectangular extrusion) and redrawing it elsewhere worked fine though, fortunately it was a pretty new/clean massing model for a building.

Peter, SketchUp 2024 allows the user to choose which GPU that SketchUp will use. Can you verify that the Preferences > Graphics > GPU Selection is set to use your discrete Raden Pro GPU rather than the Intel integrated graphics?

Thanks Dan… I set the preferences to use the CLASSIC graphics engine and updated SU to the most current. The Graphics Engine details list the AMD Radeon Pro 560 OPen GL Engine. I have exercised it quite a bit and it seems rock solid. Problem solved!
