So I understand there is no way to order tags, other than by name. I can live with this by using numerical prefixes like some sort antiquated of callback to the good old days of BASIC.
However whenever I toggle the visibility or select the editing it then unorders them. It’s pretty tedious to have to constantly change the order back. Can someone provide some guidance as to ways I can avoid this? And I suppose I’m curious why it is happening in the first place as I’m struggling to understand in what circumstances it provides value.
This isn’t directly the answer to your question, though it might somehow be related…
You aren’t toggling the visibility, you are changing the “active” tag indicated by the pencil icon at the right. That is the default one that will be assigned to new geometry. You toggle visibility using the “eye” icons at the left. The active tag can’t be non-visible, so choosing one will make it visible too, which may be why you have confused the two actions.
That said, I don’t know why changing the either visibility or the active tag should affect the sorting order in the tags panel.
Edit: you do realize that each click of the sort icon at the bottom reverses the ascending vs descending order?
You should be leaving the pencil icon at Untagged. For most modeling applications there’s no reason to change it. All raw geometry should be created and left untagged. Tags should be given to groups and components but not the raw geometry.
FWIW, the tag order doesn’t change when you are changing visibility.

Sorry, to clarify when I said “toggle the visibility or select the editing” I mean doing one or the other of them. The video shows me selecting the editing which I was hoping would be sufficient to illustrate the issue, but when I toggle the visibility, much the same thing happens. I will provide a video of this also.

Thanks - yeah I’m aware of this. However as mentioned because everytime when I toggle visibility or editing it changes the order to something else, it is pretty tedious to constantly have to change the order back.
Perhaps I am misusing the tags. I use the tags to organise my entities. I like having the tags ordered in a particular way because it allows me to quickly navigate through them. I use (or more correctly: was hoping to use) the number nomenclature to control the order. If there is a better way of doing this I’d be interesting in hearing it

I’ve attached a video of myself changing visibility on tags and the tag order changing from the a-z sorting (it is similar to the first video except this time I am clicking on the visibility).
Or at least from my point of view it seems to be - possibly I’m misunderstanding something and if so I’d be interested in knowing what.
