Split a solid in two parts in Sketchup GO

I have several solids I want to cut into two equal parts.
Below are the instructions I found online.
I can get through step 3, but I can’t separate the parts as step 4 suggests.

Can someone help?

Cutting a Solid into Two Equal Parts in SketchUp Go

In SketchUp Go (Free version), you can split a solid into two halves by creating a cutting plane or shape and using the Intersect Faces tool. The Solid Tools in Pro (like Split) are not available in Go, so you’ll need to use the free workflow.

Step-by-step method

  1. Open the solid for editing

    • Select your solid (group/component) and press E to open it for editing.

    • If it’s nested, right‑click and choose Explode until you reach the geometry

  2. Draw the cutting shape

    • Use the Rectangle tool (or any closed shape) to draw the plane where you want to split.

    • Position it so it passes exactly through the middle of the solid — for equal halves, the cut should be symmetric.

  3. Intersect the cut with the solid

    • Select the rectangle and press M (Intersect Faces with Model).

    • This creates new faces where the rectangle intersects the solid, effectively “slicing” it.

  4. Separate the two halves

    • Use the Move tool (arrow key) to push one half away from the other.

    • You can now delete or hide the unwanted part if you only want one half, or keep both as separate entities.

  5. Close and save

    • Close the group/component and save your model.

    • You now have two equal parts that can be edited separately.

First, SketchUp GO is not the free version of SketchUp for Web. If you are using SketchUp GO you will have access to the Solid Tools and you can use them to split two copies of a solid group or component.

If you are using SketchUp Free then you don’t have access to the Solid Tools but you can use a cutting plane intersected with copies of the object along with Intersect Faces and then erase the part you don’t want.

Since you already have a face at the midpoint of the stile, you can make a copy as I’ve done here. Open each for editing, select, and delete what you don’t need.

If you have the Solid Tools you can use them. In this case I’m also splitting the central rail.
