That’s great. Thanks, I can do it now.
For soft edges, I have to select each one edge individually. Is there way to select entire edges at the same time to make soft or hide edge?
The eraser tool in combination with Ctrl key (windows) will Soften/Smooth the edges.
You can select multiple lines with this tool.
When doing conversions from one software to another always ‘things’ happen. Real arcs or curves get abstracted to faceted lines, solids get exploded to surfaces etc. To prevent these issues, its best to stick to one software.
Fixing it in SketchUp isn’t that hard though:
- use show hidden geometry,
- use show endpoints, set style to monochrome,
- the object is actually 4 objects so if you split them in four groups its more easy to find the problems.
- Use the Solid Inspector plugin by ThomThom to find the problems.
- And when filling the gaps zoom in so you are sure you’re snapping to an endpoint and not to a point SketchUp’s inference is suggesting. At some parts SketchUp suggest a point, aligned to an axis but the real endpoint in your mesh is actually a tiny bit off axis. Very easy to miss.
In case you don’t already have a fixed file, find it here (use at your own risk). model from cad_fixed.skp (502.8 KB)
I’ve never brought in n AutoCAD model without also bringing in a TON of extraneous ■■■■.
