Solid tool Trim Problem

Hi I’m having difficulty with trim tool, it does cut incorrectly and I don’t know where is the problem.

Im trying to trim wooden siding by temporary geometry, but it behaves weird way.

Could anyone kindly check if it behaves correctly on your machines ?

It works for me, so it may be an issue of operator error. Please say more about the problem you are having. What do you mean by “weird way”.

When I use it to trim one of siding object, it leaves me wit something like that.

And in previous file you can see one of the siding left like that:

I get this with Trim from the native Solid Tools after exploding the top level object.

On the other hand, Trim from Eneroth Solid Tools works fine.

Oh. I just opened the superfluous group and worked within it. It’s pretty tedious because each of the boards is a separate group, though. Now that the OP has shown an image of the issue, I can reproduce that. I wonder if it is a small faces issue?

I also noticed that a second trim of an already trimmed board caused it to vanish. That seems like a bug. But it wasn’t the issue the OP showed.

I tried BoolTools 2, and like Eneroth’s it had no problem. It also nicely remembers the cutter from the last trim so you don’t have to keep relaunching the tool.

Edit: it was pretty erratic which end of the board had the issue:

With Eneroth Solid Tools you do have to hit Escape between. I flipped a coin for which one to show. Here’s Bool Tools 2 in action.

@bart.rak I think part of the problem is that you scaled the groups without updating their definitions. You can see in my GIF this is also affecting the texture. Instead of scaling the groups you should have opened them for editing and scaled the geometry or just used Push/Pull on the end to get the desired length.

I scaled the model up by 100 and the problem went away. I think it is a small edges issue.

Edit: that would be consistent with @DaveR’s observation about the scaling of the groups.

Yes Dave, you are right. I created new solid group from geometry of the old siding, and I push/Pull without scaling. Now it behaves correctly :ok_hand: Thank you for quick response guys :+1: You are great :raised_hands::slightly_smiling_face:

Create those boards correctly. Turn off ‘Enable length snapping’

Thank you for advice :ok_hand: I will do it :raised_hands::slightly_smiling_face:
