Soap Skin & Bubble issue

Hi all

I’m a SU pro user. I’m trying to install the Soap Skin & Bubble extension. However, when I search for it in the Extension Warehouse, I get an error message saying ‘No extensions found’. Has this extension been removed? Is there an alternative location to download it from?

thanks, Loz

Try searching for just soap or soapskin.

Belay that. It seems to have been removed from the Extension Warehouse.

@colin, can you confirm that?

It flashes the extension page for a second and then it gives me this:

same

I look a bit lost.

the website is still on though.

Seriously out of date and the link there doesn’t work either.

and it’s almost time to reinstall it for me

I saw that, too. I wonder if it’s getting an update and that’s the reason for the current version being removed. Or maybe it was removed because the author doesn’t plan to update it.

ok, thanks all. It’s not just me then. If it’s being updated, hopefully it will re-appear soon.

Any solutions? Still can not find the newest version…

At this point there isn’t a newer version.

It seems to have been unpublished from the EW. I wonder why that is?

If you google JL_SoapSkinBubble_v1.0.35.rbz - which is the latest version, you’ll be able to find the RBZ and install it.

Which, if it’s working similar to the way it has worked since it was released, will work through today and then stop.Today is the expiration for v1.0.35.

oh I see that is the message from inside the tool.

Hopefully a new version will appear soon

We’ll keep our fingers crossed. I don’t think there’s another extension that does what it does. TIG’s Extrude Tools and several of Fredo6’s tool can create surfaces but nothing else does the inflation sort of thing.

Mihail managed to find this, and then we spent some time looking for an adequate source

wUlt_FerrariSketch1.1v2015.rbz (37.3 KB)

with the tutorials.

works on 26

Well, I haven’t tried it to see how it works. But it certainly doesn’t meet the basic extension requirements, it’s not wrapped in a uniquely named module and using global variables which could even cause conflicts with other extensions… I’m not saying it can’t be useful… but it can be a “dangerous” one…

oh yeah, I’m not surprised, and it hasn’t been updated in more than 10 years, and it’s been passed from user to user since.

I hope some talented plugin maker manages to fill the void opened by SBB soon.

Updated!

Just got this link from Josef Leibinger.

I took a quick look at the code in that rbz. It looks to me like it is damaged - or at least it is coded in some strange way that totally confuses VCode’s indentation.

It is possible to do it with clothworks but it requires a lot more steps, soapskin was indeed the best for inflating meshes.
