I am trying to move some groups around to all align nicely. But I can’t seem to snap to anything useful for accuracy like midpoint or endpoint. for example, I have a row of doors equally spaced. I want to copy and paste the group numerous times down one wall. But it keeps grabbing random positions on the group blue box..everything BUT the midpoint, which i want. How can I set this up to save on constructing and deleting so many guidelines?
Don’t use Copy and Paste for that. Use Move/Copy to copy it down the wall.
If you want to place instances of a door component using their centers, set the component’s origin at the center and then drag the component in from the Components panel.
What version of SketchUp are you actually using? There is no SketchUp for Web (free only) 2025 Desktop version.
Hmm.. Thanks I’ll try that. Seems odd that I have to Move the thing first I want to copy. I’m on the newest web version, I guess. Just got it a few days ago.
Please correct your forum profile to reflect that accurately. The user interface and tools you have available as a hobbyist using the free web version are different from the UI and tools available in the desktop version and the answers to your questions will hinge on which version you are using.
You misunderstand. You’ll move a copy of the object in the desired direction and then enter the distance you want to move the copy.
Sounds like you should go through the tutorials at learn.sketchup.com as well as look at the Square One videos on the SketchUp YouTube channel.
