Hello,
I try multiple times to install and run sketchup (2022,2023,2024) on osx Monterey.
And it didn’t launch, I get the multicolor spinning wheel for hours.
So I finaly decide to upgrade my mac to Sonoma 14.6.1 and I get the same issue.
Did someone get an idea where to have a look?
Thanks in advance
that’s an odd one.
-
can you confirm you “installed” them by placing them into the application folder ?
-
are you an admin on your machine ? if not, can an admin try to do the first launch ? it places folders in the library that SU needs.
-
if you go to mac os’s preferences, then security, then at the bottom, there is a small security section about allowing apps from the App store only or app store + other devs. are you on the second one ?
Hi,
thanks for your answer ateliernab.
- the application is in the application folder
- I’m the admin.
- the app was not allowing apps from other devs.
I try the second option but it’s the same, Sketchup don’t launch.
I have installed previously some application from other devs than apple, and they work fine on this computer.
I’m on a MBP 13" M1 Max and Ventura without a problem. Can’t say I’ve seen this problem - not launching at all. Too many installs for a license often happens, but it never even gets there. It’s reaching out to the internet looking for the license server on that first launch. Maybe there’s some problem with the default browser, or firewall or something?
My first thought on reading this topic was, like @RTCool, that SketchUp may be failing to connect to its license server. If the local license server process is stalled or can’t open, that could cause SketchUp to wait forever. Rebooting the computer ought to clear such a jam unless there is some more basic reason the process can’t open.
Another idea is that an extension may be hanging up during start. You can check that by renaming the Plugins folder to see if that makes the issue go away.
Make sure, if you have a firewall, that SketchUp has access to the ports listed, etc., per:

Hi all,
thanks for your answer.
@RTCool and @slbaumgartner give me the right path.
I am not used to server-connected applications. I only use oldschool applications. I redownloaded Sketchup 2024 while logged into my Trimble account and it worked right away. I think not being logged into my account was the problem. Thanks for your time! Have a nice day
