Sketchup Web Delete Component From List

I know this has been asked but nothing recent seems to address the question. How do I delete components from the components list in the web? In the screen shot below I have no option to purge components and I have no way to select and delete one. It says one of them, Front Leg1, is in use and it’s not. This seems like it should be a very simple straightforward action.

You can only purge unused components. If you scroll to the bottom of the components list you should see unused components and the Purge button (recycle symbol)

The component you show highlighted must be used in the model somewhere or it would be at the bottom of the Components list, not at the top. Before you can purge it from the list you need to delete all instances of it from the model space.

you have to delete from the model itself, select a component and press delete from the keyboard. then you will see it under the unused components.

And if you have a Go, Pro, or Studio subscription, SketchUp for Web also has the Outliner, which allows you to select a Component (and any multiple instances of a Component) and delete from the drop-down menu. In my video, I hold Shift and click and select multiple components to delete.

Sorry this doesn’t work. Why or how can I see items in a component. If I try and add a group to an existing component I get errors. I should be able to see which component an object is attached to, way to complicated

What version of SketchUp are you using? Please complete your forum profile.

Outliner will display what objects are included in a nested group or component.

You can access that group or component directly from Outliner if needed.

There is no delete button or right click option. I created two similar components and need to delete one, please advise

You’ve posted in the wrong thread and forum category. This is a thread for SketchUp for Web. Your screenshot is coming from some version of SketchUp for Desktop. You are also showing the In Model Compoinents not Outliner.

Complete your forum profile so we can give you the correct help.

The Delete button is on your keyboard.

Right click on the thumbnail for the component you want to remove. Choose Select Instances. Press the Delete key. If you put the component inside another component or group you’ll need to open that parent component or group to be able to select the component instances to delete.

You could also go into Outliner and find the component you want to delete, select it, and press the Delete key on your keyboard.

I have tried this and there is a bug. See first screenshot, you will see that the Delete option is greyed out. Using the delete key on the keyboard doesn’t do anything. When I change the name of the Component (I chose “Delete”) all of a sudden there delete option is available

.

That’s not a bug. This is because there are no components to select in the current context of the model. As I wrote, if the component is nested inside a parent component you’ll have to first open that parent component. Or maybe there are none of those components in the model at all so you only need to use Purge Unused to get rid of it from the Components list

Of course it won’t if you haven’t selected anything in the model space to delete.

For the third time, please complete your forum profile with SketchUp version, current operating system version, and graphics card.

It would be really nice if you weren’t so rude and condescending to users.

It’s pretty obvious that this is not intuitive, with so many users and Google queries on this exact subject. A simple roll over “i” could explain this.

As a 20+ year veteran software product owner and dev team leader, if there are tons of questions on an issue, then it needs to be explained and improved.

I do pay for this software

Ahm, actually, it’s because of the way you clicked.

if you do a right click, and just a right click, you can delete.
if you do a left click THEN a right click you can’t : your fist click, the left one, started the action of adding the component to your file. you can’t play with the menu if you’re pasting a component at the same time.

edit : you can even see in your screenshot, that the one where you selected first, in blue, is the one not working.

see in the video.

first I try with a direct right click. I can delete.
then I left click and you see that it tries to place a thomthom. and because of that I can’t delete. can’t place and delete at the same time.
then I place thomthom, press space to go back to the select tool, and I the right click allows me to delete again.

so in short, don’t select then right click. just right click.

I’m not trying to be rude or condescending to you.

I was trying to help you but you weren’t providing enough information. I won’t try to help you anymore.

Thanks, that’s very helpful. I had assumed that one must first select the component. It is not intuitive to just right click on the component you are over without any indication of which component is being deleted. There is no confirmation, but again thanks for the instructions

yeah, it’s a bit weird because unless you move your cursor back to the model, there is no indication that you’re trying to place a component.

once you know, then you know
