Sketchup/Trimble new user query

Just needing a bit of clarification on adding a new Sketchup User…

I’ve been using Sketchup at my current employer under a co-workers email address. He’s used it, moved job roles and I was given his login details by the Boss.

It’s not been an issue until the recent 2 step verification.

Looking at the Admin Console my Boss can add a new user (which he should’ve done when co-worker moved roles) - which I guess is simple. But, I’ve got quite a few models stored on Trimble Connect, obviously under the other guys email address.

Now is there a quick way to transfer them? Or should I just download them and re-upload under my new account?

And (this may be a dumb question) but if I log out of “otherguys” Sketchup on this Pc and log in as “Me”, will all my extensions and settings still be the same?

Or do I need to start again from scratch?

If your Boss is the admin of the company account, then he will have full control over the trimble connect data also.

Probably the simplest thing to do would be to download all of the files you need via with their login

and then reupload them under yourself

There are ways to share and transfer things, but It gets fiddly fast.

I have no knowledge of transferring files between TC users, but I would assume multiple users can share files if both users are part of a project. (Check the Trimble Connect User Guide.)

If you need to change Windows accounts, then download the files into the Public user’s Documents folder or a subfolder of it. (This is the shared path for all users of a workstation.)
Later, when you log into another Windows account you can move the files into that user’s Documents, or wherever is best.

The extensions and settings are saved into the Windows User account %LocalAppData% and %AppData% paths. There are preference JSON files and the extensions are beneath the "Plugins" folder usually in the %AppData% Roaming path.
So if you have been using your own Windows User account but signing into SketchUp (and “all things Trimble”) using the “otherguys’s” email, then the settings and extensions will still be available to you.

Where you might “lose” settings perhaps would be with online services such as Generate Report definitions, 3D Component Warehouse and Extension Warehouse settings, etc.

Some shared resources are saved into the %ProgramData% path are would be available to any user who logs into your particular workstation.

@colin @TedVitale_SU can you think of anything else that might need migration?

Thanks Adam & Dan

We managed to create me as a new user. No issues with Sketchup settings or extensions as I was using my own Windows account.

There does seem to be an issue with Trimble connect though. I downloaded all saved projects to my PC then started to recreate them via my new login but I’ve noticed two things.

  1. When creating a new Project the “Project Ownership” defaults to co-worker, even though it’s created on my account.
  2. I could change the ownership on the first few projects to me via a drop down option.
  3. That drop down option has since gone and just defaults to co-worker.

We have removed the co-worker from the Sketchup admin console and also deleted his Trimble identity but the problem continues.

I think I’ll leave it for a few days to see if it just takes time to clear on Trimble servers.

Cheers Guys :+1:

Edit - Apparently I have two Trimble Accounts under one email too?? A Personal Account and Company Account. Not at all confusing!

Trimble Connect has it’s own support portal and forum:

FWIW, Trimble Connect community has been moved to the new networkcommunity:

One can have multiple bank accounts as well? It’s just a way to hook the entitlements or what is bought too.
