Hi, I’m having an issue with sections in SketchUp. The model itself is aligned with the axes, in Top view the walls are parallel to the red and green axes.
However, when I create a section plane and use Align View, the view becomes slightly tilted and the red or green axis appears in the section where it shouldn’t be. It looks like the axes are not aligned with the section anymore.
Even if I create a new section plane, the same thing happens.
I’m using Parallel Projection and also tried Camera - Standard Views, but the problem still remains.
Also, this is quite a heavy file with many scenes already created, so I would prefer not to recreate all the section planes if possible. I’m hoping there is a way to fix this without rebuilding all the sections.
Has anyone experienced this or knows what could cause this?
The first time I tried I got the same issue you show, but now I cannot reproduce the error when I try again. When I align view or when I use the standard views.
Thank you! Also I’ve this file with many scenes and section planes set up, so I would prefer not to recreate all the sections. If I redo the sections, everything in LayOut will shift.
Is there a way to fix the existing sections that have this issue?
If I quit, re-start and try again - but this time I did not touch a face, locked the axis with the arrow keys, then touched part of a line - Align View works:
Out of curiosity, the file name says “Merged scans.” Was this modeled from 3D scanning in some way? Could there be something about that that is off kilter in some way?
Yes, this model originally came from a scan done in Canvas. The company processes the scan and then sends it as a SketchUp file.
However, I’ve been working with these types of files for a long time and haven’t had this issue before, so I’m not sure if the scan itself would cause the sections to behave like this.
Hi, I know this is not strictly a LayOut issue, but it affects dimensioning in LayOut, so I’m posting it here.

I copied some of the faces and clicked “Align View” on them. A few of them are lined up square with the axes, and a few show the same issue as described.
I looked into this yesterday in the other thread… which will now confuse the responses should a solution be found… if you set the units to decimal you will find them all to be zeroed out…
