Sketchup Pro 2019 crashing constantly

Sketchup has been crashing constantly. There doesn’t seem to be any particular cause and it’s driving me nuts and really slowing down my workflow immensely. It seems to be crashing about 20 times per day. We do our modeling mostly in Rhino 3d, then import to Sketchup to produce V-ray renderings, but it also crashes, though less frequently, when we are modeling natively in Sketchup and not doing any rendering. I’ve pasted portions of the most recent error report below. Can anyone please help?

What version of V-Ray are you running? Have you tried disabling V-Ray to see whether that makes the crashes stop?

Not super helpful. Is it creating a bugsplat? If not, look in ~/Library/Application Support/CrashReporter/ and look for SketchUp. Send in private message or post the Bugsplat report # and I’ll look.

There’s nothing in that folder called bugsplat

Should be something called SketchUp_blah_blah_numbers_blah.plist though.

These are the files that are in that folder:

Again, what version of V-Ray?

try with ‘Dynamic Component’ extension disabled…

V-Ray 3.6

V-Ray is the only thing we have under Extensions

Ah, that version doesn’t work with version 2019 of SketchUp
You need to upgrade V-Ray to the Next version 4.02 (payed)
If you still have installed SketchUp 2018, use that version ( downsave the model first through ‘Save As’) and keep using 3.6

Ah I see. Thanks for the help.

I was able to download Sketchup 2018 but it wants a license number in order to use it. I’m on the subscription for 2019, I don’t think I have license number. Will the sketchup people give me a license for it?

You can contact customer support and ask. They will likely give you a license for SU2018 in exchange for your 2019 license. Since there is no subscription option for 2018, you’ll probably have to pay the difference to get the 2018 license. Why not just update Vray, instead?

Seems like Vray stopped allowing free upgrades on April 1, 2019

Consider upgrading Vray as part of the cost of doing business.

Upgrades to Next were free for clients who bought V-Ray after december 2018. That stopped in april.

When did you buy it? Why version 3.6?

My boss who is not technically savvy purchased it. I don’t know when, I just started working for him about 2 months ago.

We are a small three person design firm who does not make much money. Software is very expensive for us. For a larger firm I’m sure the cost of adding a license is nothing, for us it is a big deal, we are getting by on very narrow margins.

Have you investigated the cost of upgrading Vray and compared it to the cost of changing the SketchUp license to 2018?
