Sketchup Pro 2017 and MacOS Sequoia

I know this is a stretch, but has anyone tried Sketchup 2017 on MacOS Sequoia (15)? I’ve been running 2017 on Mac OS 14 (Sonoma) pretty much w/o issue. Curious if I can keep stretching. I only use SU for projects around the house so can’t justify upgrading.

Just bumping this up…

I would guess there will be issues… the newest version has UI problems…, odds are good older code would have the same if not worse problems.

I’m running Make 2017 on MacBook Pro and Macmini, both upgraded to Sequoia 15.2 and, touch wood have no major issues. The only slight irritation, as posted earlier is that occasionally the inferencing goes South but a save at that point followed by a close and reopen of the model gets it back.
However I’m not sure if Pro2017 will work in the same manner.

Hey… I saw your post from 11/24. I’m using Make 2017 on a 1st gen M1 w/Sequoia 15.2 You mentioned no major issues, but I’m really curious if you have had trouble using the fixed or floating material pallet. Everything works fine until I try to change to a different material category (stone, glass, etc); crashes every time. When I restart it opens into the category I tried switching to! Thanks, just really curious why you wouldn’t be having this problem. I assumed it’s an “old version” issue, so any info you might have would be appreciated-thanks!

I get the crash, too, when selecting inside the textures palette, and then on restart, it does the same as for you. As a consequence, I’ve stopped using the textures palette. Because the other palettes work fine, I just use colours rather than textures, a small price to pay for the unsupported free version. I keep being surprised when the operating system is updated and SU Make 2017 keeps working; fingers crossed, it continues to do so!

As a work around to the crashing you get when going between material sets, I made this model:

Click on the scene tab that matches the set you would have picked in the Colors palette, then use the paint bucket sample mode to pick up a material. You can then use it in your main model.

Thanks @colin, I’ve downloaded it into a collections folder and will load it in parallel as another model when I need to.

Ok, Thanks… yea, I tried the free web version, it’s nice to work with the latest bells and whistles but I just like it native on my computer; seems to run better. As far as colors and textures, I get crashes switching to both. My “default” material palette is from a past project with a large “colors in the model” file. It has a ton of textures including ones I’ve added. As long as I don’t either try to resize the palette or switch to another material, it works fine. For a new project I first make a duplicate of the current file and rename it. For whatever reason the “default palette” remains available after I delete the contents of the file, so I simply delete the existing project and start another one using the same palette! :joy:

yeah, until you purge the materials, they remain. this can sometimes be a handicap, making your files huge. in your case it’s a good thing
