Sketchup Pro 2025 and Mac OS Sequoia

I’m posting this as a follow up to an earlier one detailing a problem I was having with a file with many millions of edges. Even after trying to correct the top heavy model by copying parts of it to different files, SU 2024 was continuing to give me problems such as crashing and I was having to force quit the app, it wouldn’t close cleanly.

So, I figured I’d upgrade to SUP 2025 on a new installation of Mac OS Sequoia.

This hasn’t seem to help. Still getting hangs in Sketchup 2025 where the program becomes unresponsive and I have to force quit.

I also seem to notice a different behavior opening files.

For years on Mac OS, I’ve just found the file(s) I wanted to open in the Finder and double clicked to open. This now seems to open an additional instance of Sketchup. I notice this in the force quit window which is showing two instances of SU open.

This was even exhibited when I installed an extension that didn’t show up in the other open Sketchup.

I’m getting other weird behaviors in the program: I close my open windows then quit, and upon reopen, some but not all of these windows I had closed open with the starting up of the program. I’m getting dialog boxes with warnings about files being created in a newer version.

It’s all just really odd behavior and it’s affecting my ability to work in the program as I’m spending so much time trying to sort out these issues I’m having a hard time getting actual work done.

Does anyone know what’s going on here? I know that’s a pretty vague question.

Thanks!

Oh, and what happened to the old color picker? Is that a change in Sketchup or the Mac OS?

Did you eject the installer dmg after dragging the SketchUp icon across to the applications icon? Strange things can happen if you don’t eject then run the copy of SketchUp on it.

Please be more specific about your issue with the color chooser (aka materials window). Is it not appearing at all? Is it appearing but malfunctioning in some way?

Ps please update your forum profile. It shows inconsistent info from what you wrote in your post.

Yes, I did remember to eject that.

I think, now, what I did was open a 2024 file by double clicking from the Finder instead of the “Open” command. That triggered another instance of Sketchup opening.

The Apple colors are now back, or I somehow stumbled upon them. The material representations, while I’m sure an improvement for those rendering aficionados, are going to take a bit to get used to for me.

Thank you for weighing in.

Ya, the profile update won’t take. I think it’s demanding a bio and birthdate, which I’m really not interested in sharing.

That shouldn’t be. I’ve never entered those items in mine…

You have to scroll way down and click save. Did you do that?

When I clicked save, this comes up, and I’m only changing already filled in fields

There is a setting in preferences to turn off the auto convert to new PBR textures. I also don’t like the new cube representations (hard to tell what I’m choosing). I did the preferences thing, opened them saved my templates into 2025 and all is good with old files I open and with new work I start from a template.

Where did you find this setting? I’m not seeing it in SU settings on my Mac

I did not see that, thanks.

Did you get this warning when you selected the classic option?

I’m using the new graphics engine. I don’t remember seeing that.
