SketchUp Official - Discord Server

Heyo SketchUppers,

I just wanted to take a moment to announce a new thing, an Official Discord Server!

If you don’t know what it is, you might not care. (If you DO know what it is, you might not care as well.) I just wanted to have another place for conversations that are a bit more dynamic. Honestly, we might not need it, Discourse works VERY well for our community. This new server was created as just another space to chat, and is a more short form version of a forum so possibly useful for real time conversations. We also have a Livestream channel in there for those watching, but who prefer a more robust chat platform than YouTube/Twitch/Facebook provide.

So, without further adieu…

SketchUp Official Discord Server

Feel free to contribute your questions and answers here, or visit their and strike up a conversation. There can be MANY channels so you might look through what’s created. I’ll likely grow that list based on the needs of that community specifically.

In the mean time, for this thread at least, how many folks are already Discord users? Do you have any suggestions for newcomers to that platform? Any expertise in running a server or channel? Bring all the Discord knowledge here and we can grow that community in a healthy manner. (c:

I might get in contact with my son

There is definitely a demographic that trends to Discord usage. That being said, it’s an interesting new way to communicate, I look forward to seeing how it’s useful in SketchUp. So far, the only real Discord server I’m paying attention to is for Adam Savage’s Tested.

We use discord for wargaming. It is useful for direct real time discussion and interaction. However is is not possible to retract a statement when speaking direct.

I took a quick look. Disappointed that it appears that a separate login is needed - I was hoping I could use my Trimble credentials!

There is no charge for discord, but it is an unrelated program and company. Used heavily for gaming.

Perhaps all the repetitious high pitched whining of the petulant children can be moved to the more appropriately named server of discord and leave this forum to discuss relevant issues and help people.

Don’t let that onto Twitter or you’re a dead man walking!

(But I agree with the sentiment - shush, don’t tell anyone).

This is great!
I had been bugging the SketchUp Team to make an official Discord channel for some time but some how missed this announcement

If anyone wants to come for a chat or learn some SketchUp tips and tricks, then join the voice channel around 20:00 GMT. I’m online in Discor at this time.

I’m testing HD streaming in the voice channel right now.

I just claimed a seat but am not sure if I will use it (much) due to the large amount of XXX content posted by users. So kids, be warned!

After blocking two accounts, 100+ posts removed, and 1 kept :exploding_head::

Thanks for the heads up on this, all! I brought this to the attention of our support team. I am hoping someone hops on there and starts getting it cleaned up soon.

Not a big fan of Discord, but I’ll go ahead and sign up. It may be useful at some point.

And…drum roll…Sketchup 0 - Discord Spammers 5. over 24 hours later and still Sketchup prefers the white-van-driving-sugary-treat-selling pervert to actually taking the 5 minutes it would take any employee of that organization to fix this problem.

Remove the Discord Server. Simple Solution. Takes 5 minutes.

but here’s hoping that in a few days someone feels motivated enough to do something
