SketchUp Make 2017 crashed before I could start

Yes - I think you really need the sandbox tool if you are looking to create mounds on a mesh but I bet there is a workaround one way or another. I am imagining placing spheres within the mesh then deleting the bits you don’t need? Having said that, Pro is the only version I am familiar with so I am not aware what you can do with other versions.

click on the 3 dots under the tools on the left side of the screen.
There are the other tools because they don’t fit in one single collumn.

Thanks for slummin with me then:) I was told Make 2017 would do all this on my computer, but so far I’m not able to confirm that. Apparently it’s a black market item almost…SF archives had it…was hoping to hear back. But maybe I’m just outta luck.

The sandbox tool is available in SketchUp Make 2017…

Yes, I learned esc to quit the line. BTW…you have too short a fuse. Your message didn’t even show up until after I had answered it, so I COULDN’T follow instructions I hadn’t seen yet. Now, I am happy to quit discussing with you. But thank you for your efforts…such as they were.

Yes, I know. That’s why I was trying to use it. I may still try to…just not sure what the constraints are with my computer. I may have to call Apple to find out what the deal is.

Make 2017 will work as long as your OS supports it…
Windows 11 is no problem…

I’m in the market for a new PC….but I think I may have missed the best deals. It may also work better on a PC than a Mac. I may not have had a good source either…someone mentioned the file may have been corrupted since it’s no longer offered. Do you remember where you got yours? Maybe share a link?

Yes, I remember. I downloaded it in 2017 from the SketchUp download site…
I could give you the link but that would be useless since 2017 has been removed from it a couple of years ago.

Lucky you! Well, I’ll see what I can find out. I may just be outta luck. It’s probably as easy for me to do a diarama of the thing, lol! Just hard to email.

Sketchup make 2017 I think it could work better on pc, but sketchup 2023 works well on windows and on Mac, it actually has less bugs on max than on windows, due to the QT framework migration only on windows for the 2023 version. I know that cause I use both OS, and I actually prefer MacOS, it’s better designed and more stable imo.

Thank you. Do you know if Make will work on late model PC’s or at what point is it useless on earlier PC? I’ve been lucky with PC’s but nervous as I haven’t kept up with them. I think 7 was the last one I considered getting…after my amazingly stable XP got long in the tooth. But I never replaced and now I’m not familiar at all with what the best recent years for PC would be.

I was able to do alot of stuff yesterday after almots giving up…found the circle tool and hopefully can push/pull to create mounds. The footers will actually be set on top of the mounds. I noticed on one of the videos a way to do a flat pad for something in and amongst raised terrain…is that a separate tool and is that available on the web version?

I already told you that Make 2017 runs fine on Windows 11.
My laptop is 1 year old and runs SketchUp Make 2017 way better than my old budget laptop…

What do you mean by this?
Can you further explain, maybe with a link to the video.

Hey!! I just wanted to see if anyone was still following this? I GOT SU MAKE 2017 to work!! Does anyone know valid way to input dimensions? It doesn’t work like SU web. I tried to input 32’,2’ for length and width…but said invalid measurement. Hope somebody out there knows. Running a macbook pro. Everything else seems to be working so far….

If you live in a country where the decimal symbol is a comma, you use a semicolon ( as the separator character.

nope, says invalid measurement with semi colon too ;

Sorry, i’m not getting notifications of replies…Looks like it’s working on my Macbook pro now! I think I can watch vids on how to do flat pad. Stamp maybe that’s it?

I watched part of a Sketchup Make video…person said to avoid problems with measures I should do in meters? Does that ring true to anyone? He was using a comma after his measure for distance

Stamp is part of the sandbox tools.

This is true if you are working on very small things, like for 3D printing.
To avoid the small faces problem, I draw in meters if they were milimeters. No math involved.
For what you are modelling there is no need for that at all!

That doesn’t mean you have to use it too!! This is determined by your country settings in your OS.
The only thing you have to do is watch the measurements box in the lower right corner while drawing a rectangle. You will see a comma OR a semicolon used between the two measurements. Whatever you see is what YOU have to use from now on!!

Yes, Make 2017 is staying stable now. I didn’t see the architect vs modeling part…so going to architect one and able to input feet. You are right, it will just input the dimensions for wall. I am trying to figure out how to create an angled wall that bisects the main wall on either side. Is there an easy way to do that by drawing rectangles?
