Steve, I read your thoughts, and these are my responses, to everything. I am currently on, an Alienware 17, Gaming Machine, Revision 4, with 16 GB Installed memory (RAM), running Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 64-bit, with all current updates. At my home, I have an Apple PowerBook 5300c, which is old, but several of my friends, use Apple, Macintosh , and NeXT products. I am also, familiar with the old SCO UNIX, and today’s Linux.

“This is pure speculation, as I am on a Mac and don’t currently have a Windows box to check, but you list right-click options that all say “open”, not “run”. This suggests to me that your PC is not recognizing the installer as a executable file. This idea is similar to what @sketch3d_de wrote. Do you have an unzip program installed that might be intercepting the access to the file (e.g. what is Resource Hacker?) and failing to pass along the elevated privileges when it actually runs the unzipped msi?”

I do have installed, 7-Zip, A free file archiver for extremely high compression.

7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression ratio. You can use 7-Zip on any computer, including a computer in a commercial organization. You don’t need to register or pay for 7-Zip. 7-Zip works for Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2008, 2003, 2000, NT, ME, and 98. And there is a port of the command line version to Linux/Unix. Most of the source code is under the GNU LGPL license. The unRAR code is under a mixed license with GNU LGPL + unRAR restrictions. Check the license for details.

I expanded, the originally downloaded file, and I received a directory:

D:\Downloads\SketchUpMake-en-x64

Which has sub-directories:

SketchUpPrerequisites
vcredist_x64

The main directory included:

presetup.exe
setup.exe
SketchUp2017-x64.msi

I executed setup.exe, and it asked me for a Destination Folder:

D:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2017\

I chose to create, all of the following associations.

After Install, I receive an Out of Disk Space message, and I cannot change anything.

I had to cancel the installation.

I executed presetup.exe, with the exact SAME results, of setup.exe.

My DATA (D:), has 606 GB free of 931 GB, right now, after trying, these 2 installations.

I have tried, SketchUp2017-x64.msi, current version on Today, October 18, 2017, Size: 168 MB, from Trimble, Inc., several times.

A Drive D:\ sub-directory, D:\Downloads\sketchup_install\ directory, was created.

I was suggested, to install Resource Hacker, Version 4.5.30, but I have not used, the program.

Resource Hacker™ has been designed to be the complete resource editing tool: compiling, viewing, decompiling and recompiling resources for both 32bit and 64bit Windows executables. Resource Hacker™ can open any type of Windows executable (*.exe; *.dll; .scr; .mui etc) so that individual resources can be added modified or deleted within these files. Resource Hacker™ can create and compile resource script files (.rc), and edit resource files (.res) too.

Resource Hacker (also known as ResHacker or ResHack) is a free resource extraction utility and resource compiler for Windows developed by Angus Johnson. It can be used to add, modify or replace most resources within Windows binaries including strings, images, dialogs, menus, VersionInfo and Manifest resources. It can also create resource files (*.res) from scratch and the latest release (May 2, 2015) provides a number of text templates to facilitate this.

In 2002 the author stated that he had “no plans to continue development”. However, since then he has released more updates.

In 2011 the author stated that he would neither release nor sell the source code.

  • On November 19, 2009, version 3.5.2 was released as a beta. This build added support for 64-bit executables and for displaying PNG images.
  • On September 16, 2011, version 3.6 was released with support for PNG icons.
  • On May 2, 2015, version 4.0 was released with improved support for 32-bit image files, resources can be started from scratch (with a number of resource templates), and numerous cosmetic improvements.
  • On August 17, 2015, version 4.2.5 was released. This build added support for changing a text resource format: Unicode, UTF-8, ANSI.
