I’m looking to create plans in either Sketchup or Layout that will be used by my client (facilities manager), who uses Microsoft Visio. They want to be able to edit aspects of the drawing and possibly make changes to walls, etc. I have been able to explode the drawing in Layout and import the DWG which will work fine and all dimensions are editable.
Wondering if anyone here has had success with exporting to Visio. Any recommendations welcome!
Is the text inserted in LayOut or in SketchUp? The best option providing the most control over the appearance of the text is to add it in LayOut. Also place the text and/or dimensions on their own layers in the LayOut document. That way you don’t need to explode the viewports of the model and can then maintain the connection to the SketchUp model if you have a need to go back and make edits.
Yes, the text and dimensions are called out in Layout. It seems like the best option is the draw the floor plan in Layout (at scale) completely…? That way all lines export as DWG and not connected to a viewport or any additional lines…
I wonder why. I would prefer to create the plan and other views in SketchUp and use it to create the required viewports in LayOut. No unwanted lines, at least in my experience.
Maybe someone else will come along with different advice.
Agree. I will do another test with drawing in SketchUp and dimensioning in Layout. I would work faster in SKP with offset and door components anyways. Hope someone else comes up with a better idea!
