Sketchup lagging when moving/copying object

Hi all,

I am using SketchUp 2024 and I am experiencing a problem because the program lags every time I move or copy an object.

We are an exhibition building company, and we use SketchUp to design stands for different exhibitions and clients.

I am using the Aluvision SketchUp Plugin plugin for designing the construction. The problem is that every time I try to copy or move an object, the model lags for a few seconds before placing it.

So far I have tried the following:

  • Reinstalling SketchUp and removing all components, plugins, etc.

  • Turning Profiles, Back Edges, Depth Cue, Extensions, and Endpoints OFF

  • Setting the Face Style to Monochrome

Below are my graphics settings.

this is my mac specification

Any suggestions what could solve the problem?

Thanks,

That sounds like typical behavior when a model is extremely complex (vast number of edges and faces). What does model info statistics say about the numbers of things in your model (or better, one of the statistics analysis extensions)? How big is the file?

We can take a look if you are willing to share the file here.

Spirit_hannover_montaza.skp (13.7 MB)

This is the file for example

Does this version behave any better for you?
Spirit_hannover_montazapurged.skp (8.2 MB)

That file loads a bit slowly, but then performs just fine on my Mac (which is less powerful than what you showed). It is moderately heavy (1.4 million edges, 706 thousand faces) very large numbers of component instances (24790) and groups (14542). The ratio of edges to faces is small (approx 2x), suggesting a lot of small edges, most likely in the parts of the chairs - which are also the heaviest contributors to model statistics). See attached image, which reveals excessive detail when hidden geometry is made visible. There are also multiple texture images that are unreasonably large. Finally, there are tags applied to edges and faces. Tags should only be applied to groups, component instances, and non-geometric entities such as dimensions.

In summary, your model could be put o a diet to simplify it, but found nothing to explain the lags you reported.
