Sketchup for iPad locks up after any action

Yesterday I was able to use Sketchup for iPad without issues. Today, after signing in, I carry out any action (eg. create a rectangle) and everything freezes. The image is still visible on the screen but is completely frozen.
I’ve signed out, shut down the iPad Air, signed back in again but the same thing happens.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks.

Are you in landscape or portrait? Which version of the iPad app is it?

Hello again Colin. I’m using the iPad Air with the M3 processor and a 1Tb memory in landscape mode.

Sorry, the version of the app is the latest downloaded 2 days ago

Version 7.0.2 (2172)

Sketchup Go

Would landscape or portrait really make a difference?

yep, there was a bug in one of them and toolbars.

so, could be related, or a whole new thing.

Well I’ll be a monkey’s uncle. I watched a Sketchup tutorial where Aaron described how I could move the small toolbar, the one with cut and paste in it, to any position on the screen, so I did. Ever since then the app has frozen. I’ve moved the toolbar back to the bottom of the screen and the problem seems to be cured. I’ll be wary of Aaron’s advice in the future…. -

so I guess it was the same problem as in the link I shared.

the bug is still there…

@MonkeysUncle I’m glad you’re able to keep working, but apologize for any inconvenience this issue caused you. This doesn’t appear to be the exact same bug that @ateliernab mentioned (that one involved an endless repeating of tools in the shortcut bar at the top of the screen, which was indeed fixed in version 7.0.2), but it appears to be something perhaps related to toolbar docking behavior and memory. Thanks for flagging this issue, we’ll be taking a look to see if we can get to the bottom of it.

Ok, thanks for all suggestions and contributions. I’m glad to have helped highlight a potential problem. Still a brilliant tool when all’s said and done.

Could you give a link and a timecode, to where Aaron shows moving the toolbar? We want to reproduce the problem, and exactly where you moved the toolbar to may be important. Or, if you can do the same move you had done before, show a screenshot of where you had moved it to, that then led to SketchUp locking up.

Hi Colin. Yes, it’s in the “Context Menu” video at time 1.40 accessed from the “Help” menu on the right hand tool bar of the Sketchup window.
I hope that helps.

Did you dock yours with the tools at the top, or leave it floating like Aaron did? Once it was there, did orbiting stop working?

I moved it to the top right and left it there. I didn’t use Orbit, I remember using the ‘scissors’ to cut an object but didn’t get the opportunity to test anything else.
It’s working ok at the moment so I’m naturally reluctant to move the tool bar again to conduct experiments. However, whilst searching for the video I experienced a couple of lockups, Aaron disappeared and the screen froze. Once I closed the window and reopened it all seemed back to normal. This happened a couple of time and each time I expanded Aaron’s video to full screen. If I left Aaron’s video minimised there was no problem. ’

Are you using Apple Pencil, and if so, does it have the hover feature? That is, do you have to waiting a moment for the tool names to all appear, like Aaron did, or each one appears when you place the pencil near the screen?

I use the Apple Pencil Pro. When I hover over any tool the name appears more or less immediately.

Thanks. A few of us have tried to reproduce the problem, and not succeeded yet. I’m trying to figure out what would be different for you.

Ok, so I bit the bullet. I made many edits to a sketch using quite a few tools without problems. Then I moved the ‘cut & paste’ tool bar from its lower position to the top right corner, selected an object in my sketch and used the scissors to cut the object. This was successful but the screen immediately froze and no further work was possible.
