We have a rather strange issue. one user has all sorts of problems with using Sketchup and Layout.
The problems include:-
Crashing when adding colours in sketchup
cannot transfer to layout (Layout hangs if it even opens)
Sketchup model not appearing in printouts from layout (whether printed or exported to pdf)
We have tried 2 different computers, Sketchup 2023 and 2024. Layout 2023 and 2024
I am lead to the conclusion there is something in the user profile that is causing the problem. Anyone have any thoughts or advice
Does this happen with every SketchUp model? Even a simple one containing just a cube or something? If it’s specific to their model, sharing that file would help.
What operating system on their computer? What graphics card?
Does the user have a current subscription for SketchUp?
Nothing complicated in the drawing, generally simple 2d drawings
The layout image not visible on printouts is every file…
Paid license on Sketchup pro
Windows 10 machine
onboard graphics, not sure which atm
Thanks for looking
If i open it on another machine, i can create the layout files and pdfs without issue
Was SketchUp installed correctly on that machine. Correctly means right clicking on the downloaded installer and choosing Run as administrator from the context menu. If that’s not done Windows may not grant SketchUp the required permissions to write some files and that can create problems. Evidently the Windows security settings can vary from one computer to another so in some cases there are no problems and in others there are a lot of problems. We’ve seen a number of issues that have been resolved by repairing the installation. You might try that. It won’t hurt in any case and it won’t take a lot of time.
To repair the installation, close both SketchUp and LayOut if they are open. Do a cold reboot of the computer to make sure there are no SketchUp-related processes running. Have the user sign in with their credentials if signing in is needed. Find the downloaded installer or get it from the SketchUp site. Right click on it, choose Run as administrator, and then when presented with the options, choose Repair. After it completes another cold reboot wouldn’t hurt. Then see if SketchUp and LayOut play nicely. If not, there’s something a little more invasive to try but start with this.
