I’m using Sketchup for the Web. I am unable to size a drawn rectangle. I.e.: I can’t insert dimensions into the measurements. Is it the version of Sketchup I’m using or am I missing a step?
No. It’s not the version and yes, you apparently are missing something. When you start the rectangle click and release to set the first corner. Move the cursor in the general direction of the diagonally opposed corner. Let go of the mouse and type the desired dimensions of the rectangle. Pay attention to the Measurements window in the lower right corner. Use the same format with the same separator. Most likely that’s a comma. So you would type 12,16 and press Enter to make a 12 by 16 in. rectangle. DO NOT CLICK IN THE MEASUREMENTS WINDOW EVER.
Once a rectangle is drawn you can resize it in a number of ways. Selecting an edge and moving it is one. Another is to select the rectangle and use Scale.
SketchUp doesn’t work like many CAD programs in which you draw a randomly sized rectangle and then click on an edge to set its dimension followed by clicking on the other edge and setting its dimension.
Sorry to hijack, but are you saying that I can’t select an object and change its dimensions precisely using a measurements window?
I just started using SketchUp for Web and my lack of ability to resize an object precisely is what brought me to the forums. I had been dabbling with the SketchUp for iPad and have been using the measurement box to manipulate the sizes of objects with great ease and accuracy. I am floored that the same adjustability is not available in the web version. I assumed that was a bug or a glitch or something I was doing wrong.
The answer is sitting right in front of you, right above your post.
Dave had said you can use the Scale tool, but to go into more detail on that, you could select a rectangle that is say 6’x4’, choose the Scale tool, click on one of the corner scale handles, move the cursor any direction, then type 10’,10’ Enter. The rectangle is then 10’x10’ in size.
It works the same in every type of SketchUp and has been that way since probably the beginning…
