Shapeways files for bankruptcy

I’ve been using Shapeways for my 3D printing for more than 10 years. I just now learned that they filed for bankruptcy last month and are shutting down.

Any recommendations on other 3D printing services?

Maybe Xometry? I haven’t used them but I’ve heard good things.

Maybe it’s time you start the slide down the slippery slope and get your own 3D printer.

I have one. It’s an ELEGOO Neptune that was given to me as a retirement gift from work. It only prints in plastic, however.

@ty_s may have ideas about this.

Oh wow! I hadn’t heard about this. There are a ton of services out there, I haven’t worked with any personally. I tend to use the printers we have in the office or at the Makerspaces at our local libraries. Xometry, protolabs, and i.materialise are the ones I’ve heard the most about.
What materials are you looking to print?

I’ve had a lot of things printed in silver and platinum (mostly for my wife and kids). A bronze plaque for some artwork. Desktop trinkets in full-color sandstone. The part I’ll miss most is that Shapeways provided a website to sell some my models (created with SketchUp 8).

Thanks, Tyrel. I’ve looked at these before, now it’s time to maybe give them each a try with a sample model.
