Is there a way to select entities with some sort of filter? Like selecting all “dimensions”, or all “lines”, or all “text”?
In menu Window > Model Info > Dimensions > Select all dimensions (in current drawing context!)
In menu Window > Model Info > Text > Select all screen text or Select all leader text (in current drawing context!)
In Wire Frame mode make a window selection around geometry you are focused on. Although this also selects groups, components, guides, text and dimensions. So not only edges in the current drawing context. The right plugin will though (or a code line pasted in the Ruby console)

Unfortunately not. I see no need for the first two (dimensions and text), they are covered by native SketchUp. The latter may be useful (edges) without all the other entities.
I’m afraid that you’ll have to go through the ‘Extention Warehouse’ to find one that lets you filter out edges (for example by length, color etc.) for whatever reason.

there are some extensions for selection…select toys is a free one.
ThomThom’s selection toys extension is available from the extension warehouse (it requires that you also get TTlib 2).

You can also use OUTLINER to filter entities by their name…
Being able to select just lines or just surfaces is valuable. (I’ve played with ThomThom’s selection toys, but haven’t gotten far with it yet.)
The Entity Info window shows different info and gives access to different info depending on the mix of the selection.
Mixed lines and faces:

Just lines:
Only when you have just faces selected do you get access to both the front face and back face material selection.
