Seeking Advice: Workflow for Unwrapping Acoustic Ceiling Design for CNC

Hi everyone!

I’m working on an acoustic ceiling design in SketchUp and need to prepare it for production. Specifically, I’m looking for an efficient workflow to create unwrapped drawings that I can send to a factory for CNC panel cutting.

Currently, I manually copy each face, lay them flat as 2D drawings, and export as DWG files. This method works but is quite time-consuming. I’m wondering if there’s a smarter or faster way to handle this task?

I’ve come across the WrapR extension
WrapR | UV Mapping for SketchUp models
, but I’m unsure if it’s suitable for this purpose.

Thanks for the continuous support and shared knowledge in this community!

I would look at the following extensions:

Eneroth Unroll Surface
Unwrap and Flatten

WrapR is more for dealing with textures.

Hi @DaveR
Thanks again for your suggestions! I’ll check out:

  • Eneroth Unroll Surface
  • Unwrap and Flatten

Appreciate your help—thank you very much!

Hi @DaveR

Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

After testing both:
Eneroth Unroll Surface: Unfortunately, it didn’t work for me.
There’s no response or error message to explain why.
Unwrap and Flatten: This work will, it might become my new go-to workflow for this task!

I’ve definitely learned something new today—thank you for your help again.
