Would it be possible to create a custom ‘section material’, to be associated with a ‘normal’ material, so that the ‘section material’ is used for the fill when there is a section?
Example: a solid with the brick material is sectioned, and the fill of the section is textured with the ‘section material’ (a pattern, for example).
Unfortunately, the SU section does not offer these options. However, some extensions can achieve this (Curic Section, Skalp, ConDoc, or manual layer overlay in LO)
Another extension: Section Cut Face by TIG… It is hosted on Sketchucation
None of the extensions listed will address your feature request. Having a black and white hatch pattern that is associated with colored textures seems like a neat idea. I frequently use TIG’s Section Cut Face to generate faces at section cuts so I can add textures to them. Usually I add hatches. I have thought about what you suggest although I don’t have a good solution. I’m not sure there’s a way to implement it with SketchUp textures directly but I wonder if there’s a way an extension could manage it. I could see activating the extension, sampling the brick texture, and then clicking on the section cut face to apply a brick hatch material.
