Scan Space has landed on SketchUp Viewer Beta for Meta Quest

Turn your real-world context into SketchUp models with SketchUp Viewer Beta for Meta Quest!
We are happy to introduce “Scan Space” with the latest version of SketchUp Viewer Beta for Quest! With “Scan Space,” you can turn your real-world surroundings into simple SketchUp models using your Quest device. Quest’s embedded cameras and sensors capture and stitch together spatial data of any room, and with SketchUp Viewer’s new “Scan Space” capability, this scanned data is automatically converted into a SketchUp model!

The scanned rooms are converted into simplified SketchUp models with semi-transparent materials applied to all faces, for easier blending with the real world context when used with Meta Quest’s Passthrough technology. Scanned architectural and furnishing elements are automatically grouped, named, and organized into their respective Tags (Window, Wall, Miscellaneous, Floor, Door, Ceiling)

But wait! There’s more  All your scanned models are automatically published in Trimble Connect, allowing you to open them instantly on SketchUp for Desktop, iPad, or Web, or collaborate with stakeholders in your team. Once your design is ready for review, you can use the Quest Viewer to bring your model back into the physical world, visualize how your creations will look in their intended context, and make informed decisions. Inside the Meta Quest app you can easily find your scanned models by navigating to the new “Spaces” tray.

The published models will automatically be stored in a new Trimble Connect project named “Scanned Spaces” that will be created under your default Region. Moreover, each generated SketchUp Model will be assigned a special “scanned_spaces” Trimble Connect tag that will allow you to find scanned space models even if you move this model to a different Trimble Connect location.

We hope that this new feature will help you save time and effort from manually surveying and modeling interior spaces. Whether you’re an architect, interior designer, or a creative enthusiast, “Scan Space” gives you the power to bridge the gap between the physical and digital worlds.
Download the latest version of SketchUp Viewer Beta today, try “Scan Space” and let us know what you think!

Hi @Aristodimos , just wanted to test if there were new improvements / changes made to the scan space functionality.
This feature isn’t in the current viewer app and the beta app is expired in my Q3. Any news / ways how to test this feature again?

Hi @maxB,
Apologies for the super late reply. Paternity leave + catching up on everything I missed during that time is my excuse
The Scan Space feature is still available in the Beta version but it will be coming soon to the regular version as well as a “Labs” feature. Let me know if you have any issues accessing the Beta app.

Congratulations @Aristodimos ! No apologies needed.
The current beta app prompts ‘expired’ and when de-installing en re-installing it still prompts ‘expired’ and wont start. Maybe a fixed end-date was entered in the beta?

I thought this was fixed with the latest update. Can you please confirm which version you have installed? You can see that if you scroll down on the app’s page and look at “Version & Release Notes”:

You should have 3.3.101-b

@maxB you can also change to the proper release channel in your Meta Horizon mobile app, locate the SketchUp Viewer Beta app in the store. Under “More Information” click the version that’s listed. Change the channel from Alpha to Live.

Thanks for the reply @Aristodimos. I dont get the option to change the channel. At that location I only see the date 10/12/2024

I just downloaded the beta and the feature is amazing, but I haven’t been able to compete a scan. I’m scanning an outdoor area so outline seems to be the only way. I outlined the whole area (almost 15,000sqft), added a couple of plants as “furniture” objects, chose a space to save to, and then I got “something went wrong, scan isn’t available”.

Everything looked perfect and the quest 3 kept everything perfectly aligned even over longer distances. The fact that it crashed before saving was disheartening but I hope there’s an update soon that allows to go straight to outline and it can save.
