how do I save the files created in latest version to the earlier versions
When you download the file from SketchUp Free to your computer, it comes as a SU2017 file. If you want to go back more, upload it to the 3D Warehouse. Or install SketchUp on your computer and use File>Save as… and select the file version you want.
