Replicating geometry

I’ve drawn a base with four mounting holes. Each hole will have a central bore, a recessed hex nut area, and a larger counter bore. I have the four central bores positioned where I want them. In the skp file, I have drawn one desired hole comprising the central bore, the recessed hex nut area, and the larger counter bore.
How can I use this completed geometry, to replicate in the three other holes, located on the already drawn central bores.

Hi Terry,

You can select all of that geometry and copy it with Move/Copy to the other locations. After placing the copies, select all of the geometry and use Intersect Faces>With Selection. Finally erase the unneeded geometry.

I went ahead and made a video for you. BTW, I used X-ray in this video to make it easier to check and see that I selected only the geometry I wanted.

Your video was a great help.

I had kept the three small holes because I wanted to retain the center guide. It didn’t occur to me that I could delete the holes but keep the center guide.

Moving copies of the selected geometry to the proper location was fairly easy.

But the Intersect Faces with Selection was neat in removing the “skim”. I’ll have to get my mind around that Intersect function. I’ve used it before but it doesn’t come naturally to me yet.

Can I ask you another related question? I can do it through email or I can post it on the forum.

I’ve drawn a toothed shaft.
number of segments in a circle – 48
Number of teeth around the shaft – 12
.2” gap between teeth
shaft diameter .850

I drew one tooth in profile on the diameter of the shaft. I didn’t get a “face” until I completed a line.

I then used the rotate command to rotate that one tooth, 30 degrees to the second tooth location. For each of the 12 teeth I used the rotate/copy to get the 12 teeth around the diameter. I’m pretty sure there’s a way to specify multiple copies without having to make individual copies.

With the teeth profile drawn around the shaft, I push/pulled to the desired height.

Lastly, I want to chamfer the leading edge of the teeth by 30 degrees off vertical. I remember doing something like this when I was chamfering the threads on a screw.

You won’t get a face until you close a planar loop of edges.

Yes there is. Activate Rotate/Copy. Rotate the first copy of the selected geometry 30 degrees, press Enter, and then immeidately type x11 and press Enter to make additional 11 copies of the original tooth, each spaced 30° from the previous one.

As for beveling the ends of the teeth, you can draw a cutter volume and use it will Bool Tools 2 (I recall you have that extension) to trim the teeth.
