You can get a “help” about the “non-solid problems” with e.g.:
Solid Inspector
Some cases it can even repair the model, on other cases just report (highlight) the problems and you have to do it yourself … 
Thanks @dezmo - I’ve got Solid Inspector and clean-up but am still running into the issue where my machine / Sketchup can’t seem to cope with the weight of the task. But sounds like that’s my only route!
I don’t know how often you’ll be led to use such detailed scans, everyday at work or only temporarily… In the first case, SketchUp would probably not be the software you need. Every software has its limits, its uses ; and spending too much time and not being able to find a simple and smooth workflow for a particular task is a sign that maybe you should look if there’s a software, somewhere, that is more fit !
