Reconnect to Model? Why? Huh?

When they are exploded they no long behave like dimension entities.

Which is why I wrote:

I should have read more carefully. I am still glad I updated the dimensions for future changes.

Are you the guy who made my life easier on the job?

and in action:

So I am experiencing the frustration of the dreaded red “Reconnect to Model”. I read the previous posts on the thread, and the input from @DaveR. (Although I’m still not sure what a PID is or how to recognize.)

My SketchUp book case model has three main areas of model space:

  1. the main model (origin),
  2. plan/elevation of components
    and 3) exploded assemblies.

I copied/pasted/exploded/tagged some existing components (sides and shelves) and added them in the exploded assemblies section along with a new scene and some updates of existing scenes. I did not make any changes to the component instances or the scene associated with the component plan/elevations.

I opened the Layout file, and updated. I was expecting the previous viewports of exploded assemblies would need to be modified because of the updated SU model. Much to my surprise, all of the viewports of the plan/elevation components had red “Reconnect to Model” dimensions and a few labels.
After selecting all and reconnect to model , about half of the red went away. Still, leaves extra work to go back and redo the dimensions still flagged. Why would all the viewports where instances of components that were not modified get the red “Reconnect to Model” ?
Any help is appreciated.

any extensions running? Some tend to alter things, especially when section cuts are involved

I do have about 25 extensions enabled. Skalp is not one of them. No section cuts in the model. No extensions were used for making the modifications I described.

The reasons is that Skalp recreates the section everytime and LO see this as new and don’t reconnect the dimension automatically.
You can do the reconnect or do nothing. The red which indicates that the dimension isn’t reconnected isn’t printed or exported.

Thanks for this discussion. I was going crazy because of this issue but, on second thoughts, having to reconnect dimensions seems to be a small price to pay for the fact that they are connected to the model.

Fortunately, Layout is stable and does not crash when reconnecting dozens of dimensions.

A quicker way from DaveR! I was following another thread that doesn’t mention this feature of grabbing multiple dimensions and right clicking ‘reconnect to model.’ What a time saver! Most reconnect automatically, just leaving the ones that actually DO need to be reconnected.

I still have no idea why a simple change to one component within a model causes almost ALL dimensions to become ‘disconnected’ and turn red - would be great if developers could address this…
