[Question] First Meaningful Project

What was the first meaningful project you made with SketchUp for Web?

Now, it wasn’t my first project, per se, but one meaningful one that comes to mind was designing a replacement part for my friend’s vacuum that we 3D printed (and saved him from having to buy a $120 part).

I was away with no desktop Sketchup available so I used the Web version to show a contactor how to solve some door trim details.

I can’t say I’ve EVER done anything meaningful use any web version of SketchUp, but I can’t help but to brag that I think I was the first user to try it on an Android tablet!

It was at the Steamboat Springs SketchUp conference back in 2016 (I think!). I was in the audience when it was first announced as a beta test - and supposedly worked only on desktops (windows and mac). So I whipped out my tablet and tried it - and it worked!

I don’t recall exactly what I created - something a bit more complex than a simple box with no openings - but I do remember saving it then later, with my laptop, accessing it on the web and downloading it - where it worked in SketchUp Pro 2016!

I redesigned some 3D printed robot parts for the local FIRST Robotics team during a team meeting at the junior high school where they have their shop. It was nice to be able to do that on one of the school supplied computers so I could hand off the .stl files so printing could start.

For this project I started out with working in SketchUp 8 (on a very old laptop) and also through later SketchUp versions in an imported dwg- drawing of mine of our “house to build/finish” to see how tiling of the ground floor throughout the house should be positioned. In the mean time I also had to wait for the actual tiles batch to arrive to get the exact dimensiones.
Via ‘Combine Textures’ in the Web Version I created a quite realistic texture that I could move around in the imported dwg to get the best practical position. The web version was/is in Google Chrome on my simple chromebook at location for practical reasons:
