Push/pull a hidden face

Sometimes this happens to me where I push/pull a face that I didn’t expect I’d be able to.

It happened just now, and I started recording and was able to recreate it.

I don’t know why it’s happening but I wanted to share this video. I’m not sharing the model because it happens occasionally on every model, it’s not specific to this one.

In the video I’m double clicking push/pull, and hitting ctrl+z to try to re-create it. You’ll see it at about 13 seconds in.

What’s happening here? Is this an intentional feature?

Double click with many tools reproduces the last action.

Hey, thanks for your reply. The specific thing I’m talking about in this post is how the back surface of the object moves at 13 seconds in.

Probably because you have double clicked on the back face and it has done as expected and moved in the opposite direction (because it is the back face) the same amount.

How could I have double clicked on the back face in the view shown in the recording?

Not trying to be antagonistic, just trying to figure out how this happened, because honestly it would be great if I could actually use this tool intentionally.

Following up on @Box’s idea, measure to see how far the new face is offset from the visible back side of the non-hidden opposite face of the object. I’d bet it is the distance you wanted but not from the hidden face.

It is. The push/pull applied to the back face. My question is how.

SU cursor can select (and detect inferences) in a small area, 10px diameter I think.
it looks like your cursor was on the short edge at the top of the back face, could it be that it grabbed the back face ? (the top edge is, after all, part of the face)

it’s a common problem with bleedthrough, when you zoom out, elements start being visible through others because of the short distance. could be related ?

In windows/Preferences/Drawing do you have Prepick on Pushpull enabled?

Oh this is interesting. I see “disable pre-pick on push/pull tool” and it is unchecked. So I guess that means I have pre-pick enabled. What does that mean?

Does anybody have any idea why this is happening?

beyond my theory ? nope. but at times, I’m zoomed too far and I select things I don’t want to. hence my theory
