I am using Sketchup make 2017 and am still drawing a tram body which is more or less finished but I need to add the body beading. When I try to use the follow me tool after I have highlighted the path and clikck on the follow me tool the line reverts to black so is this normal? no screen printor file this time.

you need to select the path, then the follow me tool and finally the face you want to be extruded.
Yes it is, (the selected path is memorized by now). Proceed by clicking (with the ‘Follow Me’ tool) on the face that needs to be extruded along that memorized path.

And remember to work on a scaled up copy of your model or component to avoid issues with small faces. For example model in metres, as if they were mm.

We really can’t answer based on a screenshot. Could you share this model? If you zoom in closer can you see the beads?
