I’m having an issue with version 2026 Pro on a windows machine with the paint bucket tool not selecting existing materials when using the alt key. This happened to me occasionally with 2025 also.
Right now it is happening on a small file that I have just started with minimal geometry and materials used.
Could this be a setting I have somewhere, or a bug?

Does it work if you tap, wait a second, and use the middle mouse button to orbit? Occasionally Sketchup 2025 Pro will seemingly get bogged down and delay switching between the paint bucket and material sampler.
Thanks, I tried that but no change. Since posting I have found that I can restart SU and it seems that it will work for a short time and then go back to not working.
I’m trying to work out if there is any specific material or sequence of operations that causes it.
Yep, it was a constant problem in 2025, improved in 2026 on my end. Try (in 2026) to delete everything from curic and generally purge purge/update plugins folder.
That’s a known problem. What happens is, that the Main Window is unfocused when you select the bucket, doesn’t matter is you click the icon (which is really weird) or use the shortcut “B”. So you have to focus the Main window again … either by pressing “B” again or orbiting. If I remember correctly, that was a decision to change that behavior some time ago - which drives ppl nuts.
