Dug around and didn’t see anything on this. When I use the “page count” auto-text on a page before or after the range that is being calculated, the value is blank. For example if I want to display the total number of pages on the cover page (which lives before first page of the document). Seems the page count should be a value that exists and be displayed regardless of the page it is on. Bug? or am I just missing something? Thank you!
‘On every page’ layers can be turned off/on per page.
Are you altering an example template?
Check your auto text settings in Document Setup for PageNumber and PageCount there is formatting there. Also be sure the # hash tag is next to the first page in the Page Tray. You can have a page zero with nothing filled in for the label then numbering starts at page one (the second page). Pages above the hash will show nothing.
Yes, understand the “every page” or “shared” layers visibility per page.
The text box IS displayed on the cover page, however “PageCount” has no value. This works fine on every other page, but only if the box is on a page that is with the PageCount range defined in the auto text settings.
I have “ of ” (“05 of 18” for example) showing on each page. But would also like to show the total PageCount on the cover and index.
Mocked up a screen shot to illustrate…
This is the settings I have for auto-text:
You have a start page setting in both PageCount and PageNumber You also have to set the “Starting At” in both. Pages above the # hash tag dont get counted.
You’re in the correct spot. Just change “Start Page:” to Cover and you’re good to go.
Thanks for the comments:) I guess it’s not possible to have the PageCount begin on second page of the document AND display the PageCount on the Cover (first) page without including it in the total count… Not a deal breaker at all, was just hoping that would work. I’ll just place it manually. Thanks again!
Ahhhh, tried this:
I set the Start Page of the PageCount to “Cover”…
Then I set the Start At to 0 (zero).
That achieves what I was looking for by allowing the PageCount to be displayed on the Cover page and compensates by reducing the PageCount by 1.
Yes its weird until you understand it then its actually quite good. I wrestled a bit until I figured it out.
