Orange bar error message SLOW

For the first time today, Sketchup web was being very laggy for all students as they worked, with several getting a message in an orange bar that Sketchup seems to be running very slow. Is this a new feature to help when it is overloaded, or is there an actual problem with Sketchup application today, March 3

@marwanobeidat could check whether there is a known issue going on.

Hi @sshinabarger, thanks for the post! I am not sure if there is an ongoing issue or not as I lack some of the tools that other team members have access to, but my quick and simple testing did not show any issues with the web app at the moment. Maybe someone else can provide more insight though.

If I had to guess about a potential issue, my first thought would be a model getting too heavy for the hardware you are using. I am happy to take a look at one or two of the files that are lagging if you are up for sharing them with me. If you don’t want to share the files that is fine too although my ability to diagnose the issue will be more limited.

Thanks, that would be helpful. It is just this cube activity. Practice making objects a group and then moving them precisely. Done this several times over different semesters using Sketchup Schools, not really having the lagging for all the students before on this. I guess it could have been an internet issue, but other things were fine.

Hmmm… that is a pretty light file. It definitely should not be pushing the limits of SketchUp and I didn’t see any lag when I imported it into a new file. Can you share what model of computer you are using, what browser you are using and what version of the browser you are using?

I’ve been using Sketchup everyday for 3 weeks with my class. I don’t really think it is a hardware issue. We use Chrome, and it is usually updated at least every 2 weeks. I think there was a glitch happening this morning. I just thought I would see if anybody else was reporting it. Thanks

I definitely have a problem happening, I think it must be a google Chrome version issue that updated this week. Immediately on starting sketchup online, students are getting bad lagging and a message that Sketchup is running extremely slow. We have Chrome Version: 133.0.6943.142 installed on the computers, they are macs - and they are not all on the newest OS, I have the computer lab staggered. The google Chrome on my desktop is still on Chrome version130.0.6723.92. and Sketchup is working without error on my desktop. So, I think this is an issue with chrome. I haven’t used Sketchup on Safari - guess that is what I will do for now.

Thanks for letting me know @sshinabarger. I appreciate it. I am running the same version of Chrome on my laptop and am using a MacBook Pro. I am still not seeing the issue on my end but I’ll keep poking around and see if I can replicate the issue.

As for using a different browser, Safari is not recommended for using SketchUp for Schools as it has some issues with our app. I would recommend trying a different browser instead. I can’t speak for anyone else here but I have had good luck using Firefox when I am not using Chrome.

So, after trying Safari browser also, I have narrowed it down to the MOVE tool is really the big problem! Which is so weird, how can one tool function be causing the entire application to lag? I have contacted Sketchup tech support, they have sent me a couple things, but they haven’t really paid attention and they have sent me prompts for SketchUp full software, not the web version. Is there actually tech support for the school web version? Anybody know?

I received a message from SketchUp tech support that there is a known issue currently with SketchUp for Schools web version, especially with Google Chrome and Edge. March 13.2025

Can you please try the same test case using Trimble Identity . This will be our Free application. I am not able to reproduce your issue neither in the free nor in the edu versions.

I went to your link and set up a new Trimble account, with an email account not associated with the school google network.
I opened Sketchup online on my home person computer.
I have recorded a screen cast. As you will see, the tools work, until I use the MOVE tool. The video shows a lag when trying to slide the cube to the right and back to the left.
Then I attempted to use one of the rotate points on the cube, and it is almost impossible to get the mouse to “stick” to the rotation points.
As soon as I switch Off of the move tool, it functions normally with some simple tools, but again has way too much lag when trying to use the move tool.

Although I also get that orange bar with error message once in a while I don’t see it in your video (on a phone). I have to better check tomorrow on a chromebook.
For me that message never bothered me for I didn’t see SketchUp noticeably lagging in any way then.
Also I can’t see SketchUp lagging in your video. Only jumping to different endpoints in the back in semy X-ray to grab back end corners. Once again, I’ll need to have a closer look tomorrow.

Hmmm… That lag is definitely odd. What hardware are you running SketchUp on? I checked your profile to see if it was listed in there but it did not have all the info I needed so please let me know what kind of Mac you are using and what OS version you are running.

Although it shouldn’t be affecting the performance of the tool, have you tried toggling the rotation grips on and off while using the move tool? It may help us narrow down the source of the lag. You can find the option under the Application Settings menu as shown here.
