No dotted lines, or custom colours showing in LO or SU

Hey there,

This feels like a very similar issue to the topic explored in the following link, but I’m unable to solve the issue using the same methods: Dotted lines no showing in layout

Sketchup Problem: In the tag manager, when I try to change the line appearance of a specific tag (in this case p_doorswing_ele and p_doorswing_plan) to a dotted line, nothing happens.

Layout Problem: This issue also manifests in Layout, where I cannot seem to get lines appearances to change, beyond adjusting line weight. I have tried to change p_floors to a grey tone, but nothing changes.

Happy to share SketchUp and layout files as needed via DM. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to the styles tray, on the edit tag go to the last setting and check the box that say guide lines

Share the LO file.

It’s not likely to be what francis said. Maybe it’s that Dashes are not enabled in the Edge settings of the style. It may be something else.

Hey Francis,

I believe I have this checked already. Is this what you meant?

Hey Dave, I will DM you - thanks.

I got your file. Indeed it was as I suggested. Your style had Dashes turned off.

Tick the box and update the style and the dashes will show in the model.

In LayOut, reset the Style properties to match the style in the SketchUp file.

Side notes:

I did my usual checks in SketchUp and LayOut. I see incorrect tag usage in your model. All edges and faces should be created and remain untagged.

In LayOut you could purge the file of unused references.

I also see that you have overridden the camera properties for some of the scenes. This is risky because it can create a mess if the Camera gets reset for the viewport. Example here.

After resetting you can see how the content added in LO no longer aligns with the model.

Here I’ve made a copy of the viewport and set it up without modifying the camera properties. It would be much more stable and dependable.

Thanks for your help on all of this Dave. Some rookie errors from me there - thanks for finding them.

Is there an efficient way to locate and untag these faces and edges?

I use Default Tag Geometry from Sketchucation. It’ll quickly iterate through the model to look for edges and faces that need to be set to Untagged.

Clean up3 will also untag the geometry and can also get rid of stray edges, unused components, materials and tags, fix divided edges and other things that I can’t remember right now, you can also set it up so it doesn’t delete any of the things above mentioned like tags if you have a template with default tags or materials, or don’t erase stray edges if you’re working with an imported dwg or dxf file, in my opinion it’s the best plugin that helps to keep your file clean and optimized.

CleanUp3 is a good option but be aware it may clean up more than you want. Be thoughtful about the cleanup options you select.

I ran it on your model with all of the options selected and it removed some important entities in your model.
