New version can't read old 2024 version file

Why my sketchup 2025 can’t read my 2024 file please?

What happens when you try to open a file created in SketchUp 2024?

Share a SketchUp file that won’t open for you?

What operating system? “Intel integrated GPU” is not an operating system. If it’s Windows, did you install SketchUp 2025 correctly? That requires right clicking on the downloaded installer and selecting Run as administrator.

Please correct and update your forum profile.

I run it as admin but still can’t read my 2024 file

The file you shared is a PDF. If you’re trying to open that in SketchUp it’s no wonder it won’t open. SketchUp doesn’t open PDF files.

Did you install SketchUp using Run as administrator? That’s different than running SketchUp as administrator.

Yes I went to the installer and run it as admin just now, but during the installation as don’t see that option ‘‘Run as administration’’.

Your reply doesn’t make sense. When you right click on the downloaded installer file you should see an option to Run as administrator.

You didn’t answer my question about the file you shared. SketchUp can’t open PDF files like the one you shared.

Is like we can’t understand one another, I did exactly like you said, to the installer and Run as administrator I did that. How can I please share my file in here please?

Drag and drop the .skp file into a reply like you did with the PDF. If it’s larger than 16 Mb upload it to DropBox and share the link.

You just shared a PDF file.

For the third time, SketchUp does not open PDF files. SketchUp never has opened PDF files.

I just give up , perhaps my installation process could be wrong, I see my this particular skp file in PDF format only. I remember during the installation I choose change then open folder under my computer by the name sketchupmodels, thinking that this will free my C drive and skp file will be save on the folder I created.

There must be a .skp file some place. The PDF file you shared appears to have been created in LayOut and includes a SketchUp model file.

This is a screenshot of your file from Adobe Acrobat Reader.

yes at some where it is.I appreciate your resources i’ll keep trying

Fortunately every thing works well I figure it out. You can please make your own advice from the model, and please if you can Update my user name to { Mooh }

What did you figure out? Why didn’t you find the .skp file at first?

I’ll look at it when I get a moment if you want my remarks on it.

Sorry. I don’t have that kind of power here. Maybe @colin could do it, though.

2025 finally read the model. Befor I didn’t look at the right folder for sketchup file.
I will definitely appreciate your remark am on the verge of learning so I appreciate every single bit of tips from everyone here.Thank you

That would be a problem.

Here’s some basics of what I see in your model.

First, there’s a component at a huge distance from the rest of the model. Go to the Top view and hit Zoom Extents. You should see something like this. Way over on the right side there’s a tiny black dot. That’s it.

After deleting it and hitting Zoom Extents the camera zooms in on your model as expected.

I fixed incorrect tag usage. Not as much as I usually see in models from others but there is some.

There’s also a lot of unused components, materials, and styles that should be purged.

Then I looked at the sizes of the remaining materials. A number of excessively large ones in your model. There’s no benefit to have huge texture files.

This clean up reduced the file size by 64%.

It’s a good idea to keep your models clean. That will make working with them in both SketchUp and LayOut easier.

How do you clean up to resize the file, how to check the sizes of the and how to reduce it, When you say purged did you mean normal deleting?

I used three extensions.

First, I used Default Layer Geometry from Sketchucation to fix the incorrect tag usage.
Second, I used Purge All from Sketchucation to purge unused content from the model. You could also use Model Info>Statistics>Purge Unused but I use the extension because it gives that nice little report.
Third, I used Material Resizer from the Extension Warehouse to reduce the texture sizes.

You can also use CleanUp3 to do some of this cleanup but you have to be careful because it might clean up things you don’t want to clean.
