…you offer no details, only a broad brush essentially dismissing everything said, from an insider, who may/likely not have used SU half as long as many of the users here?
Yawn indeed; why are you responding then?
Change only happens in one direction?
No need to offer feedback or challenge anything? Sounds like you are too busy to think? If you are tired maybe go take a nap instead of coming here to insult those who question “inevitable” thinking.
Do you read before you speak? There are a few companies that recognize the frustration folks have being locked into an endless subscription model. Those few actually have offered solutions, instead of being complacent about the “inevitable” (return mind you), to the SAAS model.
At least one of those companies were the recipients of an Apple Design award. But no doubt you are smarter that most of us, so why waste your time here?
You’re talking about an iOS note taking app again as if that were really comparable. It won an award for being a good productivity app for taking notes, in 2018. It’s free. But for $25 you can get pro features, like adjusting sizes and fonts.
The very fact that the discussion is heated and divided is an indication of an issue, I don’t understand why Trimble doesn’t take advantage of discussions like this one for the purpose of market analysis. This discussion reminds me of our current state of affairs, with the Political Environment and a Divided Country, Polar Opposite of one another. Where is the middle ground, the higher moral road? If I had Trimble’s Ear for a brief minute that’s the message I would share? Retailers of earlier times placed the customer first, they had a customer friendly service attitude, the old adage that you can catch more flies with honey comes to mind. How do you attract more customers with a cold machine façade, lacking in human qualities? And where is the attitude you need us more then we need you coming from? Or at least that’s my perception, I don’t think I’m alone, as all of the concerns voiced over these forums fall on deaf ears. When Industry gets too big and they forget where they came from, that’s when they take on the persona that their bigger than you, and if you want what they have to offer, then get in line and get your wallet out, because you’re going to pay. What’s wrong with being humble, and welcoming, and offering a superior product for a responsible price, with a friendly customer service attitude.
Yes, the pricing model maybe cheaper than some of the competing vendors, but with limitations, awaiting the continuous cycle of development for one. Of which the consumer has financed with the promise of future enhancements. The consumer is your investor, he’s financing your operation, where’s the gratitude? And just because the other big companies have moved to an aggressive strategy, whereas the consumer is held hostage with annual subscriptions doesn’t mean that Trimble has to follow the leader, that’s what it looks like to me. People can be put off with this treatment, I know I am, and it’s obvious that others are too. I like the small-town treatment, welcoming, friendly and honest. Cold and machine-like behavior may be in our future, and most likely will be our downfall. We need to remember where we came from, everyone wants to belong to a family and a community, that’s what makes us human, that’s what drew me into the Sketchup Community in the first place.
The direction that Trimble is taking makes me cringe when I see the migration from small and warm to big and cold, it can be alienating. Trimble needs to listen to its base, embrace and develop its community and be the leader not the follower.
The handwriting added to the challenge, but I looked up your license. The SketchUp 8 upgrade of that license is still active, if you ever want to use it.
I got different but some nice results when googling:
Alas, the terms of use always speak about ‘the right to use’, never about owning the software itself.
That might be nittypicking, but I remember I was kind of shocked at the time. Might put things in perspective.
If you develop your own software, like the students from Agenda, you get to choose yourself of course.
I bet if they heard about the story of Brad and Joe, they would be jealous.
Whoever said that was a protest song? Is it? And why would you interpret it differently? We’re you reading what you wanted to hear? Was the reinterpretation meant to misinterpret for a specific agenda? No doubt you missed the point completely. Complacency was certainly never being contemplated never mind being encouraged.
I think a better quote would be from The Boxer:
For a pocketful of mumbles
Such are promises
All lies and jest
Still, a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest
For a note taking app that is 100% free. That can’t be used to generate client products. That for $25 gets you pro features like font and size changes. A note taking app. For taking notes. An apple design award for a free productivity app. Why is this the benchmark for greatness? It’s not for anyone else and it has absolutely no relevance to whether sketchup is worth what it is.
