Need Help Recovering Corrupted SketchUp File

Hi everyone,
I was working on an important SketchUp model, but now I can’t open it. When I try, SketchUp shows this error:

“This does not appear to be a SketchUp model!”

It is a .skp file (not renamed from another format), and I worked on it for several hours before this happened. Unfortunately, I can’t open it anymore.

I already tried:

  • Checking for .skb backup files

  • Looking in the AutoSave folder

  • Opening it in older versions of SketchUp

But still no luck.

You need to make your file accessible.

Your file is all zeros, nothing in it to recover. Where are you saving them? Cloud or USB drive. If so, that is a known cause of the corruption. It is best to save and open from a local drive prior to moving to and from alternate storage solutions.
