I have a file that appears to be corrupted. When I try to open it I get a message saying “This does not appear to be a SketchUp Model”. Please help.
I can’t upload here the file, it says that the file is unreadable. What to do?

Upload the file to DropBox or We Transfer and share the link. Also share the .skb backup version.
Are you actually using a cracked version of SketchUp 2021? Where have you been saving the file while working on it? To a USB drive? Cloud location?
Hi. Here’s the link: Unique Download Link | WeTransfer
I’m not sure if it’s cracked or not, I’m using the company’s pc. I have been saving the file to a USB drive.
Ah, thanks for the additional info @mftilendo. If you can tell us what you were doing before your file corrupted that would be helpful. We have had reports of people getting their files corrupted when saving to USB drives directly or to the cloud directly. We have never been able to get a handle on the cause as we are not able to reliably get it to happen so any info on that is appreciated.
Additionally, for the aforementioned reason, we recommend saving to an internal drive if possible an then moving the saved file to the USB drive or to the cloud.
Finally, let us know if the version you are using is cracked or not as soon as you can. Cracked versions can be unstable depending on the cracking process used.
I don’t see any of the usual signs of corrupted file - e.g. large regions filled with zeros - but I too can not open the skp file. Perhaps @colin or @CaseyG can pass it to a developer who may be able to repair it or at least identify how it is defective.
The .skp file is nearly devoid of useful data. The .skb file has nothing useful for data. As Casey indicated this is not unusual for files that are saved directly to a USB storage. Unfortunately there’s nothing whatsoever to recover in these files.
I also have same problem unable to open the file. File was last opened April 2022. I use to use different Mac Book Pro. I transferred data to Mobile Storage HDD, then transferred to new computer. A lot of those file seems to be working but some don’t. The file ends with .skp
I just need to open 2 files in particular.
@Dickson : You have to share the files for someone to try and recover them…
Yokota Dining Facility Drink Bar~.skp (189 Bytes)
Please see the screenshot, I tried to attach the original file but It won’t let me upload on here. It also didn’t work uploading to google drive either.
The backup file you shared is empty.
How big is the filesize of the original?
The file you shared is not a SketchUp file. It doesn’t even include the standard SketchUp header.
The ~ indicates it shouldbe a backup of your working file but somewhere along the way it’s become corrupted.
I would expect this is where the corruption occurred.
I got rid of the old computer so I don’t have the original file size.
Im sorry and thank you for the help.
I don’t think I can ever recover this file. I’ve made appointment with my client to re-measure the site again. Thank you so much for the help. I will be more careful from next time when I am transferring or backing up the data.
