Multiple copies evenly spaced

I think in Simon’s case, as he is laying out rafters its a calculation that only needs to be considered based on centerline- except for the end piece. I think in the case of the balusters you’d just have to know how far apart two need to be to get you the 4" gap and then use that distance in the subsequent array calculation. I still think in terms of an existing solution, profile builder is the most helpful, and as it’s parametric it allows for changes on the fly even after clicking away from it ( unlike the native move tool which won’t).

Technically it has to be less than 4”

I don’t actually. Let’s say I have a rafter (or joist, or baluster - whatever) of width W that I have drawn on the left hand side of my roof (as viewed on screen). My length L over which I want to distribute copies starts at the right hand side of my rafter and extends to the right as far as I need. So the source point is the right hand side of W and the destination point is the right hand end of L. As @whiterabbitdesigncompany has pointed out, this could equally be done centre to centre or from right to left.

There are several ways of doing this using native tools, many of which have been exercised here. But they are all quite long winded in comparison to what I would see as ideal (as described in my last post).

I haven’t used Profile Builder (as suggested by @whiterabbitdesigncompany) so that may be a way to go.

@simoncbevans the roofing question using 1001 tool has the divide line by a fixed distance in it.
If you didnt want to splash out on the profile builder, this could work.
It would be handy if it returned the quantity of points it finds to make the next step of copying easier, but you can explode the result and see the point count in the entity info window.
Still not as auto as PB, but would work?
