I am trying to model this landmark using photos. Obviously everything lines up perfectly using the first image (see image 1). I use another image using the same origin point as in image 1 but the model doesn’
It appears this landmark is symmetrical. Can you not just model 1/4 of the monument from one photo and polar array the other three sides? They can be components until everything is sized correctly and then the first side, with the plaque/engraving, can be made unique.
For a walk around like this you can get away without changing the origin, but I generally do so for good practice anyway. For the interior of a room, you have to change the origin from one picture to the next (the origin has to be in view, not behind you). In your third photo, the origin is behind the object, necessitating an artists eye to position it which can work, but setting an origin where you can see it helps.
You do have to go through adjusting each scene for a best fit with all the parameters. Sometimes it takes a lot of tinkering and sometimes you never can get a perfect match.
Besides the obvious red and green vanishing lines used to match the perspective of the photo, the other things you can grab and manipulate include:
The little yellow box which is the origin — that slides everything around.
(I deliberately chose this waterfront example because you can literally see the horizon line)
…and, hovering over the axes gives you arrows indicating to scale the model relative to the photo by clicking and dragging along the axis. The farther you cursor is from the origin, the finer you’re control.
