Model moves from center gridlines

I’m sure I am not using the proper terms, words because I’ve scoured this forum, google, ~5 Sketchup Videos - nothing. Or, nothing that works.
I begin on a Plain View-Inches template, and start at the meeting point of the axis (?), gridlines(?), blue-green- and red lines (!). At some point, somehow - mostly when trying to zoom - my model/drawing suddenly is not on that grid any longer. After way too much time trying to find my drawing, when I do, it is not at that center point. and I have no idea how to get it there. the move tool does not move it! Maybe I shouldn’t care? Just don’t want ti to be saved and have it in some obscure place on the page. Sorry, I’m. sure it is operator error, but thank you for any advice.

Share the .skp file so we can see what you are working with.

No matter where the contents have strayed, go ahead and save the model then share it here by dragging the skp file onto the forum reply window. I’m sure we can find it for you and put it back where it belongs!

So…I believe I somewhat found the culprit - going from full screen to exiting full screen.
The screenshot Off Center - is where I found it and I was trying to ‘move it’ back to the meeting of the R-G-B lines. I’m assuming it is upper right - direction of that blue axis line. But the model won’t move. I exited Full screen to type the above in this forum. When I returned to Sketchup from this browser, see the screenshot Back to Center - as THAT is what was there - same file, did nothing but exit full screen, go to this browser and back!??! Now - good news it is where I want it. Bad news is all the labels and some other walls are gone (first screenshot).
I exited FS again and came back to a blank page! I did have a red axis line to the left and was able to Zoom out and find it. however it is now stuck on the left, I can’t get it to the center where I can work on all sides. Screenshot Move to Middle - how do I do that? and thanks again… SP - doing some FS-Exit FS testing next.

sorry, advised that being new I am only allowed one image per post. I now have been advised I’m replying too fast -trying to add the next two screenshots. pause…

again, share your skp file so we can look at it. your screenshots are not very explicit as to what’s going on.

The junction of the 3 axes is called Origin.

You can move something at the Origin by starting a move action then let go of the mouse and type [0,0,0] or [0;0;0] depending on your regional settings. The typing is shown in the Dimension Window at the bottom right of your screen. Do not click in this window, just type.

Complete the input with a press of the Return or Enter key.

I decided to reboot my Mac to eliminate any possible issues there. I clicked on Quit Sketchup, it closed, I rebooted and Sketchup actually uninstalled!??! I’m reinstalling it now. I will open (try) the last file and send the sky.

What? None of this makes sense.

not making this up! Completely uninstalled.
Anyway, here’s the skp. when opened it, the model was not visible. when I zoomed a lot, it appeared off to the right - at origin (ty Jean-l!). can’t get it to center in the window so I can work on it;
floor plan.skp (13.6 KB)

Did you Zoom Extents?

Huh…When I open your model, the floorplan is shifted to the right but visible. And Camera->Zoom Extents brings it back to center. Alternatively, you could just pan it back to center by holding shift while pressing the middle mouse button (or scroll wheel) and dragging to the left. I wonder, do you understand pan and orbit using the mouse or touchpad?

There is a Zoom Extents or Zoom selection command in the menu that should center your model to your screen. Then there are the Standard views - Top would view your “plan” directly from above. Another thing to learn would be the difference between Perspective and Parallel Projection.

Thanks Steve and everybody. Seems it was a combination of things. First - did not know about the Zoom Extents - HUGE help! Then I noticed that while it was centered, the tool bar overhead as not visible. - it was waaayyy to the left. So I reset the window size view went into Workspace and Saved current window. But it didn’t keep it the next time I opened it. It seems that setting the Current Window size requires an unchecked Cascade Main Windows. Once it did that, it sets up on the screen perfectly each time. Thank you!
And I have been taking the on line courses. They are helpful, but not real detailed. For example - it shows you how to group things - but no mention of how to ungroup things. And Explode (I think) is a lot less intuitive than Ungroup.

sounds like you didn’t drag the sketchup folder from the installer image to your application folder. more like you opened the installer, and opened the sketchup app right away.
off course, rebooting your mac means that the installer disk image was ejected, and your sketchup was gone.
