recently, the width of the scene tabs changed from “starts and stops with the name of the scene” to “there is always some space to the left and to the right of the scene name”. So now, every tab is way bigger than how it used to be. It looks like this now:
Is there a way to change the width back to the way it was before? Because the way it is right now, I can’t see all my scenes at once. Instead I have to scroll or use the search-button on the far left.
There is no way to change it, beside use older SU version.
In my opinion (experience), if developers touch a UI part, it’s certain that the area around the text will be larger (the unused area will be larger). I’ve said this many times that I don’t like it, but it seems they do like (or they don’t care).
That’s disappointing. Do the devs read the forum? I don’t think, most people like the tabs using more space than they used to. So maybe, that change could be reverted, or al least made optional?
This is not defined. Basically, it is a user forum, the SU staff is present “voluntarily”.
If you are lucky, yes, they may read it. But this does not necessarily mean that they will take it into account, or if so, when it will be implemented. It is also possible that they will not do it due to “higher priority considerations”*.
In my experience, they read quite a lot of feedback and consider it, but they do not usually respond in a meaningful way, so that you do not take it as a promise, and if they don’t it (within a reasonable time) you cannot complain…
*the “higher priority considerations” are not known to the users.
It’s hard to say how many people like larger/more spaces. Maybe more than us who don’t.
Well, I’m sure that making the UI resizable by users is much, much more work than leaving one option - decided based on some (whatever) criteria.
Just posting because I feel the same way and would really like for this to get changed back the way it was. It is common for me to have 40-60 scenes in a model that I need to switch through, and now that has become significantly more time consuming.
Yes, same here. I do not like the fixed width Scene Tabs. My tab names are now unreadable. Please change back or tell us how to change back to variable width Scene Tabs.
Same here. I just switched to SU 2026.2.243. Same problem as explained above, and same resulting frustration.
This is just look like a bug, not a feature. Their minimum size is already too big for a 1 letter scene, But also as soon as there is too many scenes tabs to fit on the ribbon on the screen, every scene tabs size get reduced to that default size, making them unreadable.
Too big for short names - Too short for long names.
Please bring back the 2026.1 Tab size.
You did great back then when you made them so compact !
Accept the viewport label in Layout uses the Scene name by default. So yes I want to call a scene “Section C-C”. or “North Elevation” and not have to use codes in Sketchup then have to do more editing in Layout. I think a majority of users are in the architectural field. The model is only half the work.
Ive mentioned this before the scene tabs should create a second row when they run over the the window. Thats common programming and very old code that could be applied.
