Measuring an Object with Curved Surfaces

How do you measure an object that has curved surfaces?

For example, the diameter of this knob:

Is this covered in any of the tutorials etc. on this site?

At least in four different ways:

Sorry, I meant this diameter:

Turn on hidden geometry from the right hand menu and the tape tool will snap to those points.
Edit: It’s called Hidden Objects and can be found in the Display tab.
