Materials/textures management in 2025 for Mac

Still finding it difficult if not impossible to create and add .skm files to the Materials browser for Mac. Doing the Duplicate List in the Colors in Model dropdown does create a new folder of the materials in what looks like .skm format, but they don’t appear in SU as expected… even after a restart. They lack the mapping attributes and don’t appear as cubes like the legit materials do.
Has this process been updated (hoping) or is it still a mystery?

Hi @rbond → I can highly recommend 5D+ Library for that. It absolutely solved this problem for us. We finally were able to rework our internal material library (and component library) and share it with the rest of the team. And it’s free! Free’s good!

@napperkt … thx… looks good… I’ll give that a go. Still don’t understand why it’s not already implemented in SU… “Hey, SketchUp… don’t forget us Mac users!”

the mac UI is about to change to be pretty much the PC one, it’s already in betatest (you can find some mention about it around here)

right now it’s built on mac os’s colour panel, and it can change with a simple mac os update. I believe the general idea is “since apple tends to change and break stuff these days, and the new UI is coming, let’s not spend too much time on it”
or something

that being said, the PC panel is also not as developed as 5D+ so… :innocent:

… got it… thx. I’ve been away from SU for a few years and I expected it to have evolved a bit more than it has… it still rocks, though

yeah, there was a big change of the framework (tool) behind the PC interface. and now it’s using something called QT that is compatible on both pc and mac.

there were a lot of things to readjust on pc (and many will tell you that not all the kinks are ironed out yet  ) but at least, the mac version should benefit from all of that
