Make Unique menu item

I am new to Sketchup and need help. I want to make a new component from an existing component. When I right click on a component the context menu has “Make Unique” is greyed out. What do I need to do?

It sounds to me as if there is only one instance of the component in your model. Try making a copy of it so there’s more than one. It’s kind of hard to make something unique from itself.

David,

Thanks. Sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn’t; very frustrating.

What do you mean? Do you have an example of a SketchUp file that has more than one instance of a component and yet Make Unique is grayed out? If so, could you share it? If you don’t want to share it publicly, feel free to send it to me in a private message.

Is it possible you might have already made the instance unique? You’d be able to tell that by looking at the In Model components in the Components window. After making an instance of a component unique, you would see a second component with #1 appended to the component name.

Make sure that you click on a component and not a group.

I don’t think Make Unique shows at all if you are right clicking on a group. maybe it does and I’ve never noticed.

Ohh yes, my fault
