As I’ve argued, touch screen Windows, or Mac Magic Devices, are the same thing. Have gesture control in SketchUp, and you’ll make more than just Mac users happy.
Hehe. That’s very pun-ny.
I try to make this a little bit more “visible”.
Have you ever been in a primary or secondary school lately? Guess what? They have Macs and Magic Mouse, and they usually teach Sketchup. Result: bad Sketchup user experience.
Have you ever been in an architecture faculty lately? 90% of students have a Mac, and guess what software do they use? Answer: rhino, autocad, and other software via Windows virtualization (Revit).
They usually avoid Sketchup, even because its Mac user experience is poor: palettes everywhere, poor multi desktop support, poor apple hardware support.
I couldn’t agree more on the lack of trackpad support. Taking out my old Windows mouse just to efficiently use Sketchup is annoying at best. Rhino is an excellent example of what trackpad support could look like.
Agreed. And it’s also a nice companion program to use along with SketchUp.
You should not be using a Mac mouse with any cad or drawing software.
Check the stats on it. The dpi is too low, and It lacks the ability to hold down the middle button and click with left or right button at the same time.
You can a much more accurate mouse for around $15.
It is pretty, but also useless.
When you get a new Mac you need to get the trackpad and extended keyboard option.
Now that 2017 is here, has anything been added for trackpad support? I couldn’t find anything in the menu.
Nothing has changed as far as using a trackpad.
I recently switched from PC to Mac, and was frustrated with the Magic Mouse Pan / Orbit problem, so I used my old three button Microsoft mouse. Then I loaded MagicPrefs, and Scroll / Pan Zoom work great with the configuration shown below. sometimes Orbit is still a bit balky, for reasons I do no know,
But all-in-all it works quite well. I prefer the general feel and function of the Magic Mouse to the three button Microsoft mouse. Also- SU 2017 vastly improves the Mac version operability.
It’s possible too with excellent utility BetterTouchTool.
Configure this “gesture” for Sketchup:
(first select Sketchup in sidebar)
“1 Finger Middle Click” >>> “Middle Click” (Predifined Action)
Then in SU click on the middle of Magic Mouse and move.
You folks have convinced me I need a magic mouse, so I’m using an orphaned one and liking it. However, I avoid customizations that only give me slight advantages. Control-Command on my left hand while mouse down with my right gives me middle button down. I can understand you millennials not liking that, but some of us come from an era where CAD programs had foot pedals, too, and users really performed like an organist.
I didn’t have those, but i used a digitizing tablet menu for years. A pain in the neck (and hand, the buttons on the “mouse” were stiff as hell)
